20 minutes ride by minibus from Golkoy is the ancient town of Halicarnassus, now called Bodrum. It is a lively, bustling centre for tourists, artists, Turkish intelligentsia and peasant farmers, which at night becomes a haven for bar, restaurant and club life. It has a magnificent castle with an underwater archaelogy museum and is a centre for daily boat trips to all the favourite bays and beaches.
The South Western part of Turkey is full of archaelogical remains, some of which are famous, such as Ephesus, Pamukkale and Didim and all are within range of a day trip from Bodrum at very reasonable prices. You could also visit nearby market towns and villages which are full of local colour - there are endless interests and activities to persue in our area. Often people arrive in Turkey early or stay after our courses to be able to explore a bit further afield - another excellent way to make balance in your holiday. |
