Or you can contact us at: I like to try and show objects in a different light - prosaic everyday objects that are taken for granted by our familiaity with them. I try to keep a sense of what the Russian Formalist Viktor Schklovsky called 'defamiliarisation' - To make things unusual or unfamiliar again, letting the viewer question what they are seeing. Many people are aware of the way that habit or familiarity causes things to lose their impact - the favourite picture on the wall - how we get used to seeing and thus no longer really notice it and take it for granted. Even though it may add to a useful sense of security and comfort in our living space. It could be argued that my approach is a disguise and not Formalist at all as it is not at all clear what the image is about or where it came from - I would counter this by saying all the objects are found out there in the everyday world and apart from the odd inverted colour versions - are small shots of the sometimes bigger and taken for granted object or image. Alphawave - the concept that is - is very alive to the ambient nature of things - music, imagery, design, sound. It makes sense to me to extend this approach through all of the sense experiences - even the sense of smell in some intended exhibitions! Tech Specs Digital cameras have a very interesting focal length - much more akin to the way a video lens sees the world. Hope you enjoy the imagery... |
